Why Did the Translator Choose This Piece?
To me, the most appealing part of Haigaz's writing is how it can feel conversational at times, primarily due to the irregular punctuation and short tangents ubiquitous throughout. In this way, Haigaz's recounting of his life pre-genocide in this story—and the raw expression of longing for what was lost— is all the more moving for the reader. Overall, it is an intimate and sentimental story that deserves to be remembered and shared despite language barriers.
